Rheumatology patient is runner up in international art competition

A patient-artist from the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, Tallaght (AMNCH) who created a work entitled The Claw was a selected finalist in an exhibition for the duration of the World Congress of Physical Therapy 2011, in Amsterdam, 20-23 June.
Outstanding pieces of artwork were sought representing the role of physical therapy/physiotherapy within the congress theme of Movement for Health including:
- human movement in health and disease
- people with functional limitations in action
- physical therapy practice across the lifespan

Memory Found exhibition at Rua Red

Memory Found was a collaborative art project between artist Lucia Barnes, patients with dementia and staff at the Charlie O’Toole Day Hospital, The Adelaide & Meath Hospital, Dublin, and family carers of people with dementia, which was hosted at The Carers Association’s, North Dublin office based in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. The project aimed to explore the medical, emotional and social issues surrounding dementia through experimenting in various art processes with patients and their carers. As well as celebrating the participants’ creativity, the project also hoped to bring a greater understanding of the patient’s experience of dementia and its impact on carers and families. An exhibition of the work produced through this project is now on display at Rua Red Arts Centre, Tallaght.

Exhibition along hospital street, AMNCH

An exhibition of paintings by Hugh McCarthy is on display along Hospital Street, AMNCH Tallaght, from 5 November 2011 to 4 February 2012. McCarthy’s new paintings and works on paper contain amorphous masses and geometric areas of colour that invade and leave the picture plane. These abstract compositions reference product labels, 80´s computer games, and advertisements amongst a plethora of motifs culled from the history of art, both past and present.

Lighting the Darkness exhibition

Lighting the Darkness is a collaborative arts and health exhibition presented by ArtWorks. The exhibition celebrates our rich heritage of light and is on display in the Brú Na Bóinne Visitor Centre in Newgrange, County Meath from Sunday 18 December 2011 until Friday 13 January 2012.
