Arts for Health Partnership Programme launch SPECTRUM

Date posted: 28 May 2012

SPECTRUM is a book which reflects a five month collaborative visual art project led by the Arts for Health artists’ team Sharon Dipity, Julia Pallone, Tess Leak, Anne Harrington Rees and Sean O’Laoghaire with participants from six long-term residential units in West Cork. The project explored colour; its associations, versatility and emotive response. From this investigation came a number of drawings, prints and paintings. Curated by the artists’ team, these images were transformed into a carefully considered poetic vision of the process. Throughout the book the artists share a brief insight into their participatory practice; how they converse, encourage and collaborate with the participants.

SPECTRUM is part of an ongoing commitment to sharing and celebrating the important artwork that is created through the Arts for Health partnership programme. The book will be launched over the coming weeks in each of the participating Community Hospitals: Bantry General Hospital, Care of the Elderly Unit; Castletownbere, Clonakilty, Dunmanway, Schull and Skibbereen Community Hospitals.

Books are available from West Cork Arts Centre, cover price €5, proceeds go to Arts for Health Community Hospital Arts’ Programme. Arts for Health is a partnership programme based in West Cork implementing a managed arts programme for older people in healthcare settings embedded into the service as a core activity. The programme takes place in five Community Hospitals, Bantry General Hospital, Care of the Elderly Unit and five Day Care Centres.
