The Things We Miss

The Things We Miss, an exhibition of artwork by children who attended St Bernadette’s Paediatric Unit, will be officially opened by Brendan Flynn, on the Arts Corridor, University Hospital Galway (UHG) on Tuesday 4 December at 4.30pm. Pam O’Connell facilitated the workshops over the summer months and will also show two paintings inspired by her time working with the children in UHG. Highlanes Gallery, Drogheda, presents a lecture on Saturday 1 December at 12.00noon entitled Can the visual arts play a role in medical education? A new model. The lecture will explore a new medical humanities module developed by Brenda Moore-McCann, a medical doctor and art historian at the School of Medicine Trinity College Dublin, since 2008. Read More

Applications are still being accepted for the Postgraduate Certificate in Arts in Healthcare Settings at NUI Maynooth Kilkenny Campus. The course aims to provide students with an understanding of the key theories that inform teaching and learning in adulthood; to provide them with the knowledge and skills to work creatively with groups; to give them the capacity to critically reflect on their practice in the field of arts and health and to give them an understanding of what ‘arts and health’ is and the role of the arts in healthcare, both theoretical and practical. Those wishing to submit a case study must complete a simple template. The word count is less than 1000 words and artsandhealth.ie will provide editing support. A round-table discussion entitled The Azure Project: Exploring the potential for greater participation of people with dementia in cultural settings in Ireland will take place on Friday 23 November 2012 at IMMA at the National Concert Hall, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2. The Azure project is about providing an artistic experience in Irish museums and galleries for people with dementia, their families and carers.
