Anam Beo is an independent organisation primarily funded by the HSE and Offaly Council with 10 years experience of delivering arts and health programmes and projects in Offaly. Primarily a visual arts focused programme, Anam Beo now wish to extend their work in Offaly to include music, beginning with a 12 week pilot programme and are seeking musicians. Read More
A series of sessions entitled Here and Now will take place on Fridays in 2015 in the West Cork Arts Centre gallery setting where people with dementia, their professional and /or family carers are invited to participate in facilitated discussions about a selection of artworks on exhibit. Each bespoke session will welcome small groups over a course of four exhibitions. The sessions are facilitated by Sarah Ruttle and Sarah Cairns. Read More
Arts for Health, Working with people with Dementia is a professional learning development session aimed at artists working in care settings and care workers delivering arts programmes. It will take place on Friday 20 March from 1:00pm – 5:00pm in the Workspace at West Cork Arts Centre. The sessions will inform the learners’ practices when working with people who have memory loss and dementia. Sarah Cairns will explain methods and techniques to enhance arts practitioner’s communication skills. Read More
Lying in Wait is an exhibition of a selection of artworks produced by adult patients attending Tallaght hospital over the last 6 months on view in Rua Red Arts Centre from 10 March until 22 April. Exhibited in conjunction with the patient’s work, is a video artwork entitled The Waiting Room by artist Deirdre Glenfield, exploring tensions experienced by patients in the waiting room when faced with life changing health implications. Deirdre is artist in residence at Tallaght Hospital and facilitated the art sessions in which these exhibition works were created.
Lapidus Day 2015: Writing and Words for Wellbeing Conference offers an insight into new developments in writing and health. The conference, which will take place in Cardiff on Saturday 14 March, will include presentations by keynote speakers Jeff Wallace, Professor of English at Cardiff Metropolitan University, and Fiona Hamilton, writer and therapeutic writing facilitator and author of Bite Sized.
