The Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT) has been running an Artist in Residence programme in Waterford Regional Hospital (WRH) since 1994.

In the case of visual arts, artists are given a studio space in the WHAT Centre for Arts and Health in which they create a new body of work for exhibition in the hospital. Artists are supported to forge links with the hospital community through direct engagement of staff, patients and visitors in creative projects and to respond to the acute hospital context through their arts practice.
