Dialysis Patients in Cork University Hospital publish their poems

Tiny, text to replace with Kind Gestures is a collection of haiku poems created by patients during their dialysis treatment and will be launched in the Cardiac Renal Atrium at Cork University Hospital on Wednesday 2 November 2016 at 5pm. These reflective three-line poems are presented as a limited edition handmade within sight of the ward by Haiku Island Press. Staff, patients and visitors participated in an open workshop run by artists Tess Leak and Orlagh O’Brien in October. Read More

Jazz Weekend in Cork University Hospital

The Gillibillies, text to replace with a 9 piece band, will help celebrate the Jazz Weekend in Cork University Hospital (CUH) on Friday 28th October. This is a fringe event coinciding with the Guinness International Jazz Festival in Cork City. This band is a regular feature at CUH during the Jazz festival; lead singer, Billy Horgan, is a former staff member of the Portering Department. The Benefit of Singing on Health and Wellbeing survey

Hilary Moss, text to replace with Senior Lecturer, Music Therapy at the University of Limerick is conducting an international research project entitled The Benefit of Singing on Health and Wellbeing. As part of her research she is inviting choir members to complete an online survey. This study aims to examine whether singing in a choir has a positive effect on health and wellbeing and is aiming to encourage 1000 choir members to complete the survey internationally. This is the first such study in Ireland and hopefully one of the biggest internationally if the target of 1000 responses is reached. Read More
