The Cork Simon Week 2011 lunchtime performance showcase takes place in the recently restored Triskel Christchurch on 6 October at 1pm. Cork Simon’s drama group will perform some of their latest work,  followed by special guest John Spillane and Cork Simon’s own band, The Claddagh Rogues,  who will launch their brand new recording entitled Songs From D-Block (and Other Life Stories).

The Claddagh Rogues’ story began in the day centre of Cork Simon Community in 2007. The band formed as a result of working with MusicAlive musician Kevin O’ Shanahan as part of an Artist-in-Residence programme that was supported by the Ireland Funds. The programme was extended with support from Cork City Council and the VEC.

The group produced Journey, a six-track debut recording, in 2008. Described by group singer Mags Kelly as ‘our story – it represents how we have evolved …and changed as individuals as we worked together.’ Don Baker launched the CD in The Triskel Arts Centre in October 2010. The recording received airplay on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork 96 FM and The John Creedon show on RTE Radio 1. The group has also been featured in national print and television media. MusicAlive musicians Caoimhe Conlon and Ben Girling and Iain MacLean are featured on the new recording, which was produced by Louise McCormick and John Crone.
