Event
The Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT) will begin the New Year with a performance by musicians Kate Powell and Wiliam McGlynn in Waterford Regional Hospital on 9 January 2012. Kate and William are part of WHAT’s Healing Sounds panel of musicians.
Kate Powell started playing the violin from an early age and gained a solid classical training at school and University where she was a member of several orchestras, notably The Edinburgh University Chamber Orchestra. As part of her studies, Kate learned traditional music and went onto performing with four UK bands and using her musical talent in films. Since moving to Ireland in 1997, Kate has been more involved with theatre work and working with children’s programmes via community groups and schools.
William McGlynn has been a professional musician most of his working life and been included in many different music genres from jazz to rock. William has spent the last ten years playing double bass with various orchestras, notably the National Orchestra of Wales. William also studied engineering but has since returned to music mostly as a free lance bassist, guitarist and also a teacher for Carlow College of Music and the Gorey Music Centre.
The Healing Sounds music programme aims to provide an enjoyable diversion for patients, staff and visitors to the hospital through a programme of high quality live music performances. For more information contact Gavin Barr on 051 842664 or e-mail what@hse.ie.
