The Galway Music Residency was established in 2002 to develop a comprehensive music development programme for Galway, with a professional residency at its centre.

The project was designed to bring music to new people and new venues in Galway city and county and to broaden the experience of those already involved in music. ConTempo String Quartet was chosen as Galway’s first Ensemble-in-Residence in January 2003.  During their Galway residency, ConTempo has performed throughout the city, county and Ireland.  They regularly give free lunchtime concerts in venues throughout the city and county including Galway University Hospitals where they perform four times a year.
