The Jennings Gallery/College of Medicine and Health, in collaboration with the Glucksman Gallery, is pleased to facilitate a visit from Yoon Kang- O’Higgins, VUE National Programs Director and Karin DeSantis, VUE Aesthetic Development Director, to Cork on 15 and 16 May to conduct a two day training session in VTS as part of the Learn to See – See to Learn initiative to integrate the arts into the professional curricula of the College of Medicine and Health.

Visual thinking strategies (VTS) was developed in North America more than twenty years ago by Abigail Housen and Philip Yenawine as a method for teaching critical thinking, evidence based reasoning, communication observation and visual literacy skills in schools, colleges and museums. The founders of VTS incorporated “Visual Understanding in Education” (VUE) as a non-profit organization in 1996 with a mission to broaden the use of VTS, to deepen research, and to increase understanding of Aesthetic Development.

Yoon and Karen will also lead a two hour public seminar on the evening of Wednesday 16 May from 6.00pm to 8.00pm in Room G01, Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, College Road, Cork, on the method and application of VTS in the learning environment. Parking will be available at the Western Gateway building which links to Brookfield by a footbridge. All welcome.
