Following on from a successful Autumn 2011 to Summer 2012 programme, The Open Door music sessions return to West Cork Arts Centre from 7.00pm – 8.00pm beginning on Thursday 27 September. This initiative will be delivered by Musicalive, and each week two experienced musicians, Kevin O’Shanahan and Maurice Foley, will facilitate music sessions that are open to all ages and all members of the community. To participate, no musical experience or particular ability on an instrument is required.
The project is inspired by the well known West Cork tradition of scoraíochting where people gathered in neighbours’ houses to listen, sing, play music and dance and tell stories to shorten the long winter nights.
Anyone with a love of music is invited to attend including musicians, aspiring musicians and non musicians! There will be a focus on folk music from around the world and a variety of instruments will be featured at the weekly sessions.
Beginning Thursday 27 September, 7.00pm at West Cork Arts Centre, Skibbereen and continuing every Thursday throughout October.

This project is delivered by West Cork Mental Health Services in partnership with West Cork Arts Centre and aims to promote positive mental well being within our community.
