Actress Mary McEvoy, comedian John Moynes and broadcaster Dil Wickremasinghe team up for the nationwide tour of Box of Frogs: A Revue of the Mind in May and June 2013. A See Change production, the trio share their stories of personal experience with a mental health problem in a mixture of stories, comedy sketches and songs to de-mystify, debunk and ultimately have a laugh with what really goes on inside our heads.
The idea for Box of Frogs was spawned when cast members Mary McEvoy and Dil Wickremasinghe participated in a ‘Soapbox Session’ event during the First Fortnight arts and mental health festival in January 2012. Impressed with the power of personal stories in opening minds about mental health problems, the cast members set about writing the stories of their own mental health experiences with playwright Isobel Mahon in the hope of giving the issue a platform and launching a national conversation about our own and others’ mental health.
Box of Frogs was commissioned by See Change – a partnership of more than 70 Irish organisations working together to change minds about mental health problems and end stigma. The production debuted with a successful run at The Smock Alley Theatre in November 2012 and a sell out show followed in the Mill Theatre in Dundrum as part of the First Fortnight Festival. Box of Frogs is directed by Caroline FitzGerald.
