Anam Beo, an independent arts and health organisation that delivers the Offaly Arts-in-Health programme, is hosting an exhibition at Birr Theatre and Arts Centre as part of the Bealtaine Festival. The exhibition will showcase artwork created by participants from Birr Community Nursing Unit and runs from 22 May until 28 June 2013.

Anam Beo’s exhibition features a variety of work including paintings on canvas, model making, mixed media and drawing created by day care and long-term residents of Birr Community Nursing Unit. These artworks have been developed from non-judgemental process-based and participant-led workshops which are facilitated by Birr artist Jackie Lynch.

Jackie has been facilitating art workshops in Birr Community Nursing Unit since 2005. These workshops seek to bring out the artist in each individual, to stimulate the imagination and to encourage self-expression. The benefits of Anam Beo’s approach for participants, according to Jackie, is improved self-esteem, confidence and concentration. Jackie has said she feels priviliged to work with the residents of Birr Community Nursing Unit and to be part of their lives: ‘I never cease to be amazed by the power of art … I have been humbled and I have made amazing friends.’

Official launch: Wednesday 22 May at 3pm, Birr Theatre and Arts Centre, Oxmantown Hall, Birr, Co.Offaly. All are welcome.

Anam Beo is supported by HSE Dublin Mid-Leinster and Offaly County Council.
