Exhibition by Multiple Sclerosis Galway Art Group to celebrate MS Awareness Day

Date posted: 27 May 2013

In celebration of MS Awareness Day on 29 May, Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust presents The Ability of Art exhibition by the Multiple Sclerosis Galway Art Group. This exhibition will be launched by Aidan Larkin, Western Regional Manager of MS Ireland, on the Arts Corridor of University Hospital Galway at 1pm.

The Multiple Sclerosis Galway Art Group are all members of the Galway Branch of MS Ireland and have been meeting and working together weekly over the last three years. The art sessions are facilitated by Kathryn Kelly of Sunflowers Art Studio at Cregal Art, Galway.

Originally the group, who had very little artistic experience, began drawing and painting with various mediums. As they became more confident they progressed to oil painting on canvas. Subjects range from landscapes to florals to still life. All of the artists have various physical limitations because of their MS. The group hopes that the hospital setting will inspire both patients and visitors by showing how much can be achieved despite physical limitations.
