The Room shortlisted for 2014 ICCL Human Rights Film Award

The Room, the result of the 2013 artsandhealth.ie documentation bursary, has been shortlisted for the 2014 Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) Human Rights Film Awards. The film which was made by Róisín Loughrey documents an arts programme involving people who have an acquired brain injury, which is facilitated by artist Tom Meskell at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Using a fly-on-the-wall approach, the film is a powerful and moving portrayal of the creative experience of long-stay hospital residents who have an acquired brain injury as a result of stroke, accident or conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer’s and reveals the profound impact of the arts programme on their lives.

Peer dialogue for professional artists working in arts and health participatory practice

Artist Sarah Ruttle invites you to the WHAT Centre for Arts & Health, University Hospital Waterford on Friday 20 June from 10am – 1pm to participate in a peer dialogue for professional artists working in participative art within Arts and Health. This event is a professional development opportunity as part of her ongoing investigation exploring tensions that arise in confidentiality, decision making and consent within an arts and health context. This peer dialogue provides artists an opportunity for interaction with other artists working within arts and health to specifically examine how these ethical constraints influence a commitment to artistic outcome through participatory art with its planning, art creation and curating of artwork for exhibition. Flowers, Kaleidoscopes and Viruses is an exhibition of 140 artworks at Wexford General Hospital from June 2014 to May 2015. This is a year of new beginnings, both for Wexford General Hospital and the 27 students who have studied first year of Art and Visual Communications at Wexford Campus School of Art and Design (IT Carlow). The works produced by the 1st year students from these honours degree courses are displayed in the new Emergency Department and Concourse of Wexford General Hospital. Read More
