Kids’ Own, in partnership with the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and the Psychology Service (PCCC), in Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan, invites applications from artists and writers to lead a collaborative book project with young people exploring mental health and celebrating and promoting children’s wellbeing.

Funded through the Mental Health Services, HSE Northwest, this project aims to address the gap in provision of self-created child/ youth resources about mental health, and will result in the creation of a brand new book publication for nationwide distribution.

Three groups of young people will participate in the project, in Sligo, over a period of 8 weeks in autumn/winter 2014, working alongside one artist and writer. Groups will be drawn from children attending the Psychology Service (PCCC), CAMHS and a school group, in the 8-12 yrs age range, with approx. 8 children in each group.

Kids’ Own invites applications from artists and writers – individually or as a partnership – who are interested in leading this project in collaboration with the young participants.

Applicants must have previous experience of working in a collaborative context with children.

Deadline for submission of applications is: Friday 29 August, 5pm.
Interviews will be held during the second week of September.
A planning meeting with the project steering group will be held during the week 22 Sept.
The project will run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Sligo, between October and early Dec 2014.

To make an application, please submit:

• An up-to-date CV;
• 1-2 page expression of interest, including an outline of your approach to working with children & young people;
