Cork University Hospital (CUH) is embarking on an exciting new project to open up to the digital world the art collection in the hospital. The aim is to share this magnificent body of work with wide audiences who have an interest in the arts and in particular the arts and health through an online gallery exhibition and publishing a print catalogue of the collection.

There are about 300 works of art on the corridors, in the wards, offices and laboratories of the CUH, from some of the most significant contemporary artists in Ireland today, from Dorothy Cross to Amanda Coogan to Matt Lamb. Many are paintings, some sculpture, several gardens and photographs, many of which have been kindly donated and some contributed to as part of the Percent for Art Scheme.

The Arts Committee are using a Cork-based company Fastnet Archiving to photograph in fine detail each painting, and are taking this opportunity to archive and preserve, as well as to catalogue information about the artist and the art as it is in the hospital. These fine detailed photographs will then be used to curate the online exhibition of artworks and to publish the print catalogue of the collection.
