Applications are sought from dynamic individuals for 6 month position as an Artist in Residence with the Centre for Research in Medical Devices (CÚRAM) at the National University of Ireland, Galway. This position is funded through the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Discover Programme.
Organisation: The Centre for Research in Medical Devices (CÚRAM) is a national, SFI funded, €49.6m research centre that brings together researchers from NUI Galway, University College Dublin, Dublin City University, University of Limerick, University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin and Royal College of Surgeons Ireland. The prime objective for CÚRAM is to radically improve health outcomes for patients by developing innovative implantable ‘smart’ medical devices to treat major unmet medical needs. Implants will be designed and manufactured to respond to the body’s environment and to deliver therapeutic agents, such as drugs, exactly where needed.
Residency Description: Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for two 6 months Artist in Residence positions. Artists will be offered full access to the laboratories and will be allocated a creative space within the laboratory. During their stay, Artists will conceive and realise artworks, working closely with the scientists. The Artists should have a strong interest in biosciences and biomaterials. The Artists will be expected to interact with the science community and also take part in public talks. At the completion of the residency, Artists will be asked to contribute a piece of work created during the Residency. The Residency will culminate in an exhibition and the art work will feature in a catalogue. Please note that this Residency does not include accommodation.
Fee: €2,500
Start date: Mid April, 2015.
