Arts 4 Dementia Best Practice Music Symposium

Date posted: 30 March 2015

Arts 4 Dementia Best Practice Music Symposium is a one-day symposium examining orchestral and vocal practices that enable people with early stage dementia to re-engage in fulfilling musical life in the community. The symposium, which will take place at London’s Wigmore Hall on 17 April, will be chaired by BBC presenter Katie Derham and includes presentations by keynote speakers Professor Jane Ginsborg OBE, President, European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music, and Professor Theo Hartogh, of University of Vechta, Germany.

Leading music psychologists, orchestral and opera workshop leaders will present evidence to the symposium. The concluding conservatoire and concert hall panel will discuss ways to extend educational music programmes to involve music for early-stage dementia and maximise concert hall and opera house opportunities for families with dementia.
