Event
Lying in Wait, an exhibition of a selection of artworks produced by adult patients attending Tallaght hospital over the last 6 months, is now on view in Tallaght Hospital main gallery on Hospital Street. The exhibition was previously on view in Rua Red Arts Centre from 10 March until 22 April and now moves to the hospital until October 2015.
Exhibited in conjunction with the patient’s work, are stills from a video artwork entitled The Waiting Room by artist Deirdre Glenfield, exploring tensions experienced by patients in the waiting room when faced with life changing health implications. Deirdre is artist in residence at Tallaght Hospital and facilitated the art sessions in which these exhibition works were created.
The experience for patients attending hospital either as an inpatient or outpatient can be a foreboding one, where time moves strangely and the uncertainty of what lies ahead can be daunting for patients and their families. The Arts Programme at Tallaght hospital aims to improve the quality of the hospital experience. In a situation where patients often feel out of control, art can serve as a therapeutic and healing tool, helping to reduce stress and anxiety, whilst providing an opportunity for self expression.
