Work has been taking place on an innovative art project in University Hospital Galway to mark Mental Health Week (5-10 October 2015). Supported by the Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust, local artist Finbar247 has created Time, an installation of large scale black and white conceptual illustrations that promote mindfulness and personal development.

Using the walls of the entrance foyer of the hospital as a bright and inspirational canvas, Finbar247 hopes to transform the space into an area where staff, patients and visitors can learn about taking positive steps in their life. The theme of the installation will be based on time to promote the benefits of living in the now.

The project is using interactive pieces, black and white photocopied magazines (zines) and video documentation. People can also take the information home.

The final installation will be unveiled on Friday, 9 October at 9.30am followed by an artist talk on the concepts behind the images.

Artists talks, distribution of a zine, workshops and and a health and fitness talk by Geoffrey Sheridan will take place throughout the month of October. Zines, prints of the artworks and workshops will also be arranged for colleagues in Merlin Park University Hospital.
