Artist Ester Kiely will facilitate a Visual Journal Workshop in Galway on 11 October 2015. A journey in mindfulness, personal expression and finding your creative self, attendees will be provided with a blank sketchbook and access to art supplies to explore simple techniques to kick start their creativity. The workshop will tie in to artwork Ester is currently showing in the exhibition Art Is A Wound Turned Into Light during Mental Health Week (5-11 October 2015) at NUI Galway.
The featured artwork ‘Mo Ghrá Thú’ is one of two that Ester is exhibiting at NUI Galway: ‘Growing up, the youngest of five children I fondly remember some quiet moments alone with my father. “I see the moon and the moon sees me. God bless the moon and God bless me” … he would recite this in a sing-song voice on a night with a full moon.‘
On the impetus for the Visual Journal Workshop, Kiely writes: ‘Sketches, observations and memories recorded in my visual journal prompt ideas for explorations in stitch. My current journal is a discarded library book, rescued from a charity shop. Here I record small moments in the everyday, allowing them to shine a little brighter. Memories that were almost lost are found and all that is found is no longer lost.’
