Laying Your Cards on the Table is an event taking place between 8-15 January 2016 in Dundalk Library as part of First Fortnight, Ireland’s annual arts and mental health festival. Hosted by Groundswell, this is a unique opportunity to make condensed visual journals on a selection of playing cards to be read and shared with others. Accounts of daily living, pieces of advice, and heart-to-heart messages will be assembled as small collages of words and images. The playing card journals may be given away, exhibited in the library, traded or retained as keepsakes.
Two workshops will take place as part of the exhibition on Friday, January 8 and Friday, January 15 between 11 am – 2 pm in the Dundalk Library.
The workshops are open to adults, youth and children and offer an opportunity to engage in art-based community conversations, where ideas and individual stories can be exchanged through text and visual imagery.
Laying Your Cards on the Table will also be accompanied by a bibliotherapy display compiled from a selection of self-help books, poetry and literary reads that will help to invigorate the start of a new year.
