Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust is currently hosting the 13th annual staff exhibition which has expanded to include two sites, University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital. This year’s ‘Art@Work’ exhibits work from 28 staff members with 58 pieces on display. The exhibitions boast a diverse range of media and techniques including oils, watercolour, acrylic, photography and drawing with some of the work for sale. The exhibition is on view at both venues for colleagues, staff, patients and visitors to enjoy until 31 January 2016.

Both exhibitions launched in December 2015 with John Behan RHA, Patron of Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust and Professor Shaun O’Keeffe, Chairperson launching respectively.

The staff exhibition is a highlight of the Arts Trust programme and testament to this is the amount of staff members who have contributed over the years. Galway University Hospitals’ first staff exhibition occurred in 2003 when Dr. Sheelah Ryan, CEO of the then Western Health Board, launched the first ‘Art@Work’. Forty-two staff members exhibited over 90 pieces in a variety of techniques and genres. This is an initiative continued by Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust to encourage staff to engage in arts activities.

Many of the artists participating have exhibited annually over the years. We also welcome staff members new to art making since participating in some of the arts programmes in GUH and those who have begun making art since retirement. We are particularly delighted that the enthusiasm continues to grow for the arts programme in GUH as staff in Merlin Park have initiated a second exhibition for their colleagues.’ – Margaret Flannery, Director of the GUH Arts Trust

Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust would like to thank management, staff and patients for their continued support and engagement with the arts programme.
