KICKING THE BUCKET is a creative and thought-provoking seminar series on funeral practices and personal choices led by visual artist Sinead Dinneen and curator Katie Verling. The seminars will take place over six evening sessions in Limerick from 16 February to 3 May 2016. 

WHAT IT IS  
A light-hearted, yet (deadly!) serious series of presentations, conversations and workshops on illness, dying, death and grief.

The series will consist of six evenings, 6.30 – 9.30pm and will conclude with an exhibition of work created by participants, course leaders and guests.

DATES  
Tuesday 16 February, 1 March, 15 March followed by a 3 week break, then Tuesday 5 April, 19 April, 3 May 2016.

The exhibition will open Thursday 12 May and continue for 10 days (dates to be confirmed).

COURSE LEADERS
Sinead Dinneen is a highly regarded visual artist and visual art lecturer in education. She has a particular interest in arts and health practice relating to her personal experience of Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. She has presented her work nationally including with OvaCare, National Centre for Arts and Health in Tallaght Hospital, University of Limerick SIBEAL Feminist and Gender Conference, and was co-organizer and artist-in-residence of Limerick’s first Death Cafe.

Katie Verling has decades of experience curating art exhibitions, arts festivals, concerts, and community projects and was founding Artistic Director of the Glor Arts Venue in Ennis. Following treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Katie has focused on creative community projects in Limerick, and issues related to healthcare and patient experience. She has written for the artsandhealth.ie perspective series and contributed to the current Arts Council / HSE review of Arts and Health practice and policy.

COURSE FEE
€80 for the six sessions. The cost covers all materials (e.g. papier-mini coffins, felt and fabrics, art equipment), guest speakers and reading matter. The payment is in full in advance of course beginning and there can be no refunds.
