On 21 April from 9.30am to 5.30pm, the ACADEMY research centre at Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) hosts an interdisciplinary academic conference on Death/Disease/Design, featuring keynote speaker Marie Brett. Marie will screen her film E.gress and give a contextual talk in the LSAD Gallery from 9.30am-10.30am. This symposium aims to bring together an interdisciplinary group of researchers currently investigating the application of creative practices to medicine, health, illness and death culture.
Speakers are from a range of contexts including not only LSAD and ACADEMY, but the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, designCORE at IT Carlow, the Kemmy Business School, the National Centre for Arts and Health, Tallaght Hospital as well a range of visual arts practitioners.
The event will conclude with a round table chaired by Dr. Siobhan Moane, founder of the Health and Wellness Academy at LIT, and with a Death Cafe from 7-9pm in Hook and Ladder, Sarsfield Street.

The same evening, the Death Café Limerick, will take place at Hook and Ladder, Henry Street, Limerick from 7-9pm. This event is organised by Jennifer Moran Stritch, Director of the Loss and Grief Research Group at LIT. Part of the global Death Café movement, this Death Café presents an opportunity for groups and individuals to come together and discuss end of life experiences and culture in a non-medical space.
