artsandhealth.ie, the national independent website for the arts and health sector in Ireland, is turning 5 on 5.10.16! To mark this occasion we have created a short celebratory film and invited Ireland’s Professor of Poetry Paula Meehan to write a specially commissioned essay entitled Opening the Box.

artsandhealth.ie is a resource and focal point for the field of arts and health in Ireland via information, support, advice and news, and generates discussion between artists, arts organisations, health service users, carers, healthcare professionals and others interested in the dynamic area of arts and health. It also delivers continuous professional development training via its Introduction to Arts & Health workshop and its annual Arts & Health Check Up Check In event.

According to Claire Meaney, Project Co-ordinator of artsandhealth.ie, “in the last five years, artsandhealth.ie has commissioned 25 opinion pieces and uploaded 54 arts and health contact points, 69 case studies of arts and health projects, 233 resources including videos, podcasts, guidelines and research documents and shared 873 arts and health news items. It really is a useful information point for anyone interested in arts and health practice.”

artsandhealth.ie was initiated by The Arts Council and developed by the Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT) and Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts in social and community contexts. The website is now managed by WHAT and funded by the Arts Council.
