Applications are now being sought for the MA in Socially Engaged Art + Further Education at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin for enrollment in Autumn 2017. This two year, Level 9, taught masters degree focuses on the dynamic relationship between socially engaged arts practice and pedagogy, particularly within further education, non-formal educational and community settings. The deadline for applications is 30 April 2017.
Immersed in a trans-disciplinary space, students will develop their practices as educators within the Further Education sector as well as socially engaged practitioners. The programme is recognised by the Teaching Council of Ireland and on successful completion students are qualified to teach with further education settings.
The MA SEA+FE is aimed at students from a range of disciplines. To date the student group has included a diverse range of visual artists as well as those with backgrounds in education, design, theatre, film, arts management, youth and community work, urban planning and activism. Applicants should have a Level 8 (BA Hons) degree in art or design or in another discipline with a demonstrable commitment to the arts in social and educational contexts. The course takes place two evenings a week with occasional full-day workshops and two off-site practicums.
The MA SEA+FE has a strong staff team combining established practitioners from the field of socially engaged/collaborative arts and education. The course is coordinated by Fiona Whelan (Artist) and Nuala Hunt (Head of Continuing Education, NCAD) with a core staff team including artist Chris Maguire and adult educator Anne Gallagher as well as part-time and visiting staff.
