Twist of the Wrist, an exhibition of artworks created by artists, crafters and makers who all share a love of textiles, will be on display at Tallaght Hospital until September 2017.

A diverse selection of artworks includes over 11 different crafting techniques. Traditional methods are displayed in works created by three generations of one family, ranging in ages from 15 to 88 years of age. More contemporary methods are displayed in examples by Artists in Residence showcasing the adaptability of textiles through weaving recycled copper and plastic products inspired by the poetry of W.B. Yeats, to the delicate layering of materials gathered over many years to create works inspired by nature’s ‘rooting systems’.

First year medical students from Trinity College, Dublin, were introduced to stitching during a workshop based around the Patient Narrative by artist Sinead Dinneen as part of their Arts and Humanities elective module and created a series of panels.

The exhibition invites the viewer to take a closer look to appreciate the exquisite detail produced in each unique handmade piece.

Twist of the Wrist is on display on Hospital Street, Tallaght Hospital. For further information, contact alison.baker@amnch.ie or the Arts Office on 01 4142076.
