The second Arts and Health Check Up, Check In took place at The Model, Sligo on 5 May 2017. This unique arts and health get-together was organised by the Waterford Healing Arts Trust through artsandhealth.ie, the Arts Initiative in Mental Health Sligo/ Leitrim and Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts.
The event began with an inspiring keynote conversation between theatre maker Mark Storor and Patrick Fox from Heart of Glass chaired by Ailbhe Murphy from Create. You can listen to this conversation here.
A showcasing strand explored the nature of collaborative working between artists and healthcare professionals on the theme of partnership. This strand featured The Creative Well with Emma Finucane (Visual Artist) and Catherine O’Grady (HSE mental health division); 15 Miles with Bernie Austin (Director of Nursing, Community Nursing Units in Galway City and East County) and Ceara Conway (Visual Artist and Singer); and Care with Dr Regina McQuillan (Palliative Medicine Consultant St Francis Hospice), Sophie Motley and Sarah Jane Shiels (Willfredd Theatre).
