Opportunity
The HSE and the management of the Sacred Heart Hospital, Castlebar, Co. Mayo wish to invite proposals for site-specific artwork for the newly constructed 74 bed hospital which is currently under construction with a view to completion by the end of 2017. This project has been kindly funded by the Per Cent for Art Scheme. Deadline for Stage 1 submissions is Friday, 5 January 2018.
The budget is €55,000 split into three projects. The budget covers design, materials and fabrication costs, installation costs and all other associated costs including VAT.

No specific theme or outcome is prescribed for this commission; however, the preference is that the work impacts positively on the quality of the residents’ lives incorporating the spirit and ethos of today’s care delivery with an acknowledgement of the hospital’s rich and varied history. All art forms will be considered.
The artwork is required by Autumn 2018.
This is a two stage open competition. Artists will be selected on the basis of their submission.
Stage 1 submissions must contain:
1. CV and relevant examples of previous work
2. Costings of the project
3. Concept of the artwork
4. Minimum of two A4 drawings or alternative expression to communicate the concept of the artwork
Stage 2
Stage 2 shortlisted artists will be invited to develop proposals in more detail and an honorarium of €500 will be paid to each shortlisted artist.
Selection panel
The panel will consist of the Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, Estates Project Manager, a resident and two external artists with public art commissioning experience.
