Dance Theatre of Ireland hosts a number of dance for health programmes, both in person and online, for older people and those living with Parkinson’s and Dementia. The 2022 programme includes Dancing Well with Parkinson’s, part of the Dance for PD worldwide programme, and Movement to Music inclusive of Dementia, supported by the HSE Living Well with Dementia CHO 6 programme.

Dancing Well with Parkinson’s, Online via Zoom

This is a modern dance classes for People with Parkinson’s and their care-partners. Focusing on musicality, rhythm, expression, connection and joy, this one-hour ‘do as you are able’ activity promotes freedom of movement and creativity. DTI is part of the Dance for PD membership programme, a dance method which is proven to improve physical and emotional wellbeing for people with Parkinson’s in over 100 communities around the world.

Movement to Music inclusive of Dementia

Wednesdays 1.45 – 3.15pm: Live in-person class

This in-person gentle dance class is inclusive of people with Dementia and families / care-partners. Focusing on musicality, rhythm and expression, this one-hour ‘do as you are able’ activity promotes joyful well-being for everyone. DTI is part of the HSE Living Well with Dementia CHO 6 programme, a community-based project that supports people wth dementia to continue to live at home and participate in their own community.

Well-Dance at Home, Online via Zoom

Wednesday: 11am-12pm (Beginners)
Thursday: 11am-12pm (Improvers)

Well-Dance for Seniors is an award-winning dance programme for those aged 55+. Classes take place online (free, via Zoom), where you can take part from your own home. There are live classes also (currently waiting list only). All are welcome to join for some exhilarating fun and uplifting music which will seamlessly transport you to a very joyful place, whilst improving breathing, balance, fluidity and strength. These classes can be done whilst standing or sitting,  it’s a ‘do as you’re able’ experience.

If you feel you want to start at a slower pace, are recovering from illness or injury, or have been away from dancing and want to take it easy, the Wednesday Beginners class at 11am is recommended.
