MA Social Practice and the Creative Environment (MA SPaCE) at Limerick School of Art and Design is a unique taught master’s programme in socially engaged art practice. The MA SPaCE is currently accepting applications for the academic year 2022-2023.
Social Practice is located in the overlap of art, society and politics. It incorporates art activism, critical art, socially engaged art, social practice art, activism, political art, participatory, dialogical or collaborative art. The Turner prize focus in 2021 on ‘collectives working closely and continuously with communities… to inspire social change through art’ shows how important this field of practice has become.
The MA SPaCE provides a challenging seminar programme that gives students a strong theoretical basis from which to articulate the critical and creative dimensions of their work. The complexity and constraints of working creatively in a social context are directly addressed. Tools and methods for developing an understanding of physical and social environments, social interaction, transaction and exchange, community concerns, history and culture are generated through the work of the programme.
Applications are being accepted up to 1 September 2022.
