Culture For Health
CultureForHealth is a project co-funded by the European Commission responding to the objective of the Preparatory Action – Bottom-Up Policy Development for Culture & Wellbeing in the EU. The project aims to trigger a true policy change in the EU, at regional and local levels, bringing health, cultural and social policies closer together.
CultureForHealth is taking place with partners from across Europe: Culture Action Europe, Trans Europe Halles, Central Denmark Region, The Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture, Centrul Cultural Clujean, and Društvo Asociacija. The project will last 18 months, ending in May 2023.
Cross-sectorial policy development
Through a series of roundtables and study visits in Denmark, Italy and Romania, webinars, workshops and a final conference, CultureforHealth is facilitating cross-sectorial and trans-European cooperation aimed at knowledge generation and a compilation of policy guidelines on how to enhance wellbeing through culture. Policy workshops will result in policy recommendations for the European Commission.
Pilot projects
Six pilot projects are taking place in Denmark, Italy, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia aimed at ‘management and treatment’ of illnesses as well as ‘prevention and promotion’ for a variety of life stages and age groups. Project outcomes will be published on the CultureForHealth website and in a final report in 2023.
Research
A research review is being undertaken to clarify the importance and the role of culture for wellbeing and health, taking stock of existing knowledge and evidence, and delineating recommendations for policy as well as targeted investment measures. This scoping review will be officially launched via a public webinar on 24 November 2022. Further details and webinar registration can be found here.
The project researchers are also mapping relevant and good examples of EU, national, regional and local programmes, initiatives and projects and will develop a compendium of sustainable culture-based solutions for wellbeing and health targeting practitioners. The mapping is an ongoing process and a working directory of initiatives can be found here.
