All Irish Dance’s evidence-based training empowers you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead fun, inclusive adaptive céilí activities in your local community or care setting. The training blends theory, practical dance tuition and experiential learning.

Applications are now open for training in Reels on Wheels (Wheelchair Céilí), Some Dance to Remember for people living with dementia, Céilí Recall for older adults, and Y-Céilí for teens and young adults. The training programmes run from May – July 2024 depending on course option.

Who should apply

The training is suitable for people, with or without prior experience of Irish or any other form of dance/movement, who are passionate about inclusion, accessibility and/or community engagement and may include:

  • Caregivers
  • Community Development Officers/Workers/Facilitators
  • Community Programme Co-ordinators
  • Teachers of Irish and other forms of dance/movement (Qualified or training to become qualified)
  • Dance Movement Therapists
  • Occupational therapists, physical therapists, physiotherapists, recreational therapists, and other rehabilitation specialists
  • School Teachers
  • Social Care Professionals
  • Special Needs Assistants (SNAs)
  • Sports Coaches & Leaders (e.g. GAA)
  • Volunteers in the community
  • Youth workers

Training Options 

Level 0: Introduction to Inclusive Adaptive Céilí Dance (theory & context)
In person: 12 & 13 May 2024, Limerick
Online: Evenings: 7, 14, 21, 28 May, 4 & 11 June 2024
Cost: €200

Level 1: Practical & experiential training in Inclusive Adaptive Céilí
Option A: In person: 25 & 26 May, 22 June 2024 (Clonlara, Co. Clare)
Option B: Blended programme – Online: 25 June, 2 & 23 July 2024 / In person: 29 & 30 June 2024 (Clonlara, Co. Clare)
Cost: €300

Certification

It is mandatory to successfully complete both Level 0 (theory and context) and Level 1 (practical and experiential workshops) to achieve certification as an Inclusive Adaptive Céilí Dance Leader. Participants who successfully complete both levels will have access to a Dance Leader Handbook, video and music resources, and a support network of certified inclusive adaptive céilí Dance Leaders through membership of All Irish Dance.

We train people with or without prior experience to lead inclusive adaptive céilí dance activities in their own local communities and/or care settings. These activities are tailored for older adults and people with physical, cognitive or sensory disabilities and conditions.
