Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) Arts & Health Department in collaboration with colleagues in Tymon North Community Unit and St Luke’s Hospital, Unit C are inviting artists to apply to be an Artist in Residence, facilitating art sessions for patients at the bedside and becoming a valued and supported member of the arts team.

The funding allocated for this project is €5,800 through the RENEW working Group (HSE, Creative Ireland, The Arts Council and Healthy Ireland Department of Health). This funding covers payment for training, induction, documentation of work, and a materials budget for the successful artist to deliver a high quality programme throughout September, October and November in 2024.

Background to the project:
TUH Arts & Health Department have successfully delivered the Art at the Bedside programme for over 20 years where our artists in residence offer a stimulating, creative space for patients to make and talk about art while staying in Hospital. Currently there is no arts service available to TUH patients in St. Luke’s Hospital, Unit C. This residency aims to nurture cross-site expansion of the Arts & Health programme, providing opportunities for engagement in new healthcare settings.

The successful artist will:

  • Hold a third level arts qualification and/or have experience facilitating creative arts sessions
  • Have experience working within a healthcare setting
  • Supply two arts/health related references
  • Be Garda vetted by TUH
  • Complete all mandatory training on HSELanD
  • Attend induction at TUH Arts & Health Department
  • Complete shadow training with artist in residence
  • Deliver high quality art sessions to adult inpatients
  • Record patient engagement, capture feedback and compile a programme report
  • Comply with guidelines for receipt of payment including: (a) Submit a monthly invoice to TUH Arts & Health Department (b) Provide a tax clearance certificate (c) Provide copy of public indemnity insurance.

Those wishing to apply for the residency should submit:

  • A current one page CV (include reference contacts)
  • Provide an artist’s bio (300 words maximum)
  • Evidence of practice:
    A) Provide a direct link to a recent arts and health project you have been involved with or facilitated and/or
    B) Supply three photographs which best represent your work in this area with a short description.
