Dance Theatre of Ireland aims to increase access to and participation in dance, including for those who might not participate otherwise. Based in South Dublin, DTI provides a number of award-winning dance for health programmes, both in person and online, for older people and those living with Parkinson’s and Dementia. Classes take place on a weekly basis and the online programmes are free for participants.
Dancing Well with Parkinson’s – Live classes
Dance Theatre of Ireland, Dún Laoghaire
Fridays, 12.30-1.30pm
A programme of weekly creative dance classes for people with Parkinson’s in partnership with Move4Parkinsons and supported by the HSE National Lottery Fund. DTI is part of the international Dance for PD programme, a worldwide movement to improve the lives of those living with Parkinson’s.

Dancing Well with Parkinson’s – Online
Fridays, 11am-12noon, FREE
This is a modern dance classes for People with Parkinson’s and their care partners. Focusing on musicality, rhythm, expression, connection and joy, this one hour “do as you are able” activity promotes freedom of movement and creativity.

Movement to Music inclusive of Dementia
Holy Family Parish Centre, Kill Avenue, Dún Laoghaire
Wednesdays, 1:45-3:15pm
An in-person gentle dance class inclusive of people with dementia and families / care partners. DTI is part of the HSE Living Well with Dementia CHO 6 programme, a community-based project that supports people with dementia to continue to live at home and participate in their own community.

Well-Dance for Ages 55+

Well-Dance is an award-winning modern dance programme developed by Dance Theatre of Ireland Artistic Directors and co-founders Robert Connor & Loretta Yurick.
A one-hour dance experience for people age 55+, Well-Dance is an uplifting, extremely popular modern dance class which seamlessly transports you to a very joyful place, whilst improving breathing, balance, fluidity, flexibility and strength – all to great music.

This online dance class can be done whilst standing or sitting, it’s a “do as you’re able” experience. Supported by The Arts Council, the HSE and DLRCC.

Heart of the Matter – Vintage Youth Ensemble

Vintage Youth Ensemble, DTI’s Seniors Dance Performance Ensemble, will bring their new production Heart of the Matter to dlr LexIcon.
Taking inspiration from Carl Sagan’s The Pale Blue Dot, Vintage Youth’s new work, directed by DTI Artistic Directors Robert Connor & Loretta Yurick, will explore nature and climate change informed by the life experiences of the ensemble.
Vintage Youth Ensemble is an open group of older adults who came together as an outgrowth of DTI’s Well-Dance for Seniors modern dance classes. Since 2015 they have created and performed many original dance works in theatres and for public events and festivals.
