Arts Care, Northern Ireland’s leading Arts in Health organisation, is seeking three artists for the Ignite Community Programme, a four-year social innovation programme which will take place across Northern Ireland and the border counties of the Republic of Ireland.
Project Background & Overview
Arts Care delivers a wide range of participatory and commissioned arts programmes to people of all ages in health and social care and community settings across Northern Ireland.
The Ignite Community Programme is a four-year social innovation programme led by Young Social Innovators (YSI), supported by the PEACEPLUS Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). The Ignite Community Programme aims to enable young people to drive and own innovations that will make a real difference in tackling inequality and creating new connections across communities.
Arts Care’s element of the project is utilising the arts as a platform for this. The project will be delivered across the six counties of Northern Ireland and the border counties of The Republic of Ireland.
Key aspects of the role:
- The key role of the Project Artist will be to facilitate groups of young people including delivering a series of art projects in line with the YSI social innovation framework. This can be in the artist’s chosen art form, including but not limited to visual art, music, dance, creative writing, drama and multidisciplinary arts.
- Design and deliver artistic taster sessions and master classes for young people through project partners.
- Undertake YSI Youth Leader training in order to deliver the project curriculum.
- Work towards a showcase of art or performance related to their social innovation with each cohort of young people.
- Work with the Project Officer to plan and deliver a series of artistic showcases.
- Work closely with the Project Officer to coordinate the logistics and administration around the sessions, including booking venues, ordering materials and fostering good relationships and communication with youth leaders and partners.
- Ensure the accurate maintenance and compilation of monitoring records for both quantitative and qualitative data, including expenditures.
- Collate feedback from each cohort of young people and compile for evaluation.
- Contribute to the upkeep and curation of Arts Care’s Creative Space / Gallery as a key venue for Ignite Community youth activity.
Essential Criteria
- Hold a third level qualification relevant to the post and have two years’ experience facilitating art sessions with young people. This could encompass various artforms.
- OR Have a minimum of five years’ experience facilitating art sessions for young people. This could encompass various artforms.
- AND Hold a current driving licence (valid in the UK) and have access to a car. *
*This criterion will be waived in the case of an applicant with a disability which debars them from driving a car, but who is able to make suitable alternative arrangements which enables them to perform the full range of duties associated with the post.
Desirable Criteria
Experience working within a budget and keeping accurate monitoring records.
Salary
£27,200 pro rata (with incremental increase each year for the 4-year project)
Part Time
18.75 hours per week for duration of the 4-year project. The post holder may be required to adopt a flexible working pattern outside of regular office hours to meet the programme’s delivery needs.
Location
There will be a requirement to travel to deliver the Ignite Programme across Northern Ireland and the Border Counties of The Republic of Ireland including at the base in Connswater Shopping Centre. Travel costs will be provided.

At the initial stage of the selection process the candidate will be asked to facilitate an arts workshop. Successful candidates will then be invited to an interview.
