The National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in partnership with Creative Futures Academy is now accepting applications for the Professional Diploma in Art and Health 2025 (Level 9 NFQ). This eight-week blended course offers grounding in an art and health context and will connect participants with leading figures of practice.
The course runs from March – November 2025 (16 days in person over nine months), and is designed to fit around your time and needs with weekend and evening sessions.
Who is this course for?
This course will be of interest to anyone who has studied or is currently working in an artistic or healthcare practice and wants to be part of an exciting space with emerging intersections and new career opportunities. This might include artists, arts and health practitioners, healthcare professionals / management, scientists.
Programme description
The course will focus on the theoretical underpinnings, contemporary issues, topics and concepts relating to arts and health practice. You will investigate and critically reflect on the broad and creative approaches to art practice in health contexts, identifying boundaries and the distinction between arts and health and Art Therapy.
You will critically reflect on the implementation of arts and health practices, and develop and evidence a clear understanding how policy can shape this work across sectors at a national and international level.
Industry Expertise
You will learn from leading practitioners in all areas of contemporary arts and health, including industry expertise and input from Helium Arts, the National Children’s Arts and Health Organisation, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), and the Creative life Centre, MISA at St James’s Hospital.

Format
Module 1: Principles – 4 days in person (4 Saturdays)
Module 2: Experiences (IMMA and Helium) – 4 days in person (2 weekends)
Module 3: Immersion, St James’s Hospital – 4 days in person (Monday -Thursday)
Module 4: Capstone – 4 days in person (4 Saturdays)
