Cocooning: Catch a Breath, Catarina Araújo and Mental Health Professionals. Funded by the Arts Council Artist in the Community Scheme.

The Arts Council’s Artist in the Community Scheme, managed by Create, offers awards to enable artists and communities of place and/or interest to work together on projects. The projects can take place in a diverse range of social and community contexts such as arts and disability, arts and health, arts and older people, arts and cultural diversity, and arts and communities.

The AIC scheme is open to artists from any of the following artform disciplines: architecture, circus, street art and spectacle, dance, film, literature (Irish and English language), music, opera, theatre, visual arts and traditional arts.

It is essential that consultation take place between the artist and the community, so that both parties are involved in deciding on the nature of the project. Group ownership of the art should be maintained at every stage.

The 2025 closing dates for the awards are Monday 31 March and Monday 29 September.

This includes the following awards:

  • Research and Development Award (without mentoring)
  • Research and Development Award (with Mentoring)
  • Recent Graduate Research and Development Award (with Mentoring)
  • Project Realisation Award

Full details of the awards and how to apply, are available on Create’s AIC Awards Page: https://www.create-ireland.ie/projectsubpage/aic-awards/

Information Sessions
Create knows from internal research that in 2024, 63% of proposals deemed ineligible were submitted by artists and communities who did not seek advice from Create before applying. They strongly recommend that applicants attend information sessions and one to one advisory clinics in advance of applying.

Find out more about upcoming info sessions and advisory clinics with Create staff and previous AIC Scheme recipients on the Create events page or sign up for the AIC Scheme Online Info session – 12 March 2025.
