The Creative Hand is an exhibition by Josephine Hardiman at Tallaght University Hospital. Featuring original illustrations and calligraphy artworks from Hardiman’s publication, The Book of Kildare, the exhibition also includes examples of her fine botanical and landscape watercolour Giclee prints.

A lifelong artist, Josephine Hardiman was formerly a primary school teacher in her hometown of Newbridge and has given private calligraphy and art classes to students of all ages at her art studio in Punchestown. Living most of her life in her beloved County Kildare, the story of the long lost ‘Book of Kildare’ captured Hardiman’s imagination and inspired her to create a new, modern book for Kildare for the 21st Century. The project began in 2016 and the book was published in 2024.

Working in watercolour and pastel, Hardiman is especially known for her outstanding calligraphy work, some of which has been presented to the last three Presidents of Ireland, President Mary Robinson, President Mary McAleese and our current President, Michael D. Higgins.

In addition to loaning her artworks to TUH, Hardiman has also gifted the hospital a copy of The Book of Kildare.

The Creative Hand forms part of the Arts and Health exhibition programme in TUH, supported by the Meath Foundation.
