Cut from the Same Cloth seeks to build trust and foster new connections between women and girls from minority communities in Ireland and biomedical health researchers. Initiated by UCD Conway Institute of Biomedical and Biomolecular Research, the goal is to ensure diverse voices are represented in research dialogues.
The initiative involved a series of gatherings in community settings throughout 2024, where participants shared personal stories about fabrics significant to their cultural traditions, family customs or to themselves. Health researchers also shared both personal stories about fabric and about patterns from their research which had been reimagined as fabric.
In 2025, the stories and experiences from these gatherings have culminated in an exhibition by artist and tapestry weaver Lorna Donlon, which is touring venues across Ireland.
