Mission / Aims
MusicAlive is Ireland’s specialist organisation dealing with the provision, development and promotion of music in healthcare and community settings. Its purpose is to provide access to high quality, participative based programmes in mental health and older age community and healthcare contexts. Our work is informed by evidence based research, from many perspectives, including healthcare and ethnomusicology.
Areas of activities
MusicAlive facilitates music programmes in healthcare contexts, alongside providing training for musicians and healthcare staff working in this area. The workshops involve vocal and instrumental work along with movement and improvisation. All the participants are encouraged to engage to their own level of comfort within each workshop and this engagement forms an integral part of the success of the programmes. While music is at the heart of our work, we also collaborate with professional artists from a wide variety of other art forms, including movement, creative writing and the visual arts. MusicAlive are partners with West Cork Mental Health Services at 49 North Street – an innovative community based hub for creativity, recovery and wellness in Skibbereen, Co. Cork.
